5 reasons why log houses are a good idea

The tradition of wooden constructions is almost the same age as man, especially in the northern territories, such as Canada or northern Russia. In general, log houses are made of round softwood (spruce), the components of which they are built being carefully selected. The wooden structure gives the house both a massive and a rustic look, which is very pleasant.

In addition to being an original choice of housing, building log houses is also an advantageous choice.
In this article we detail 5 of the main reasons why buying a wooden house is a good idea.

1. Logs provide excellent thermal insulation
Wood has an enormous capacity to store heat (larger than brick), wood being the best insulator of all natural materials. The cracks that appear naturally in the structure of the log do not affect its thermal coefficient. Wood, in its natural state, maintains a relatively constant degree of humidity in the living space, guaranteeing a real feeling of comfort. Wood absorbs excess moisture and releases it when the atmospheric humidity decreases.

2. Interior and exterior in rustic style.
The rustic look is due to the fact that the log structure is visible both from the outside and the inside. The modern comfort conditions are complemented by the warm and welcoming feeling due to the texture and color of the wood, combined with the natural aroma of turpentine.

3. Longevity
The lifespan of log houses is estimated at up to 400 years, depending on the wood used and how it is preserved. There are untreated wooden constructions that have lasted for hundreds of years. It is also important to know that the massive structure and the perfect joints provide resistance to earthquakes.

4. Increased fire resistance
The relatively large diameter of the logs provides increased fire resistance. The log does not light up easily even in persistent flame (a feature not valid in the case of other wooden, plank or solid profiled wood constructions).

5. Low additional costs
The log house does not require painting, there are no additional costs for materials and labor for both thermal insulation and wall finishing. Subsequent maintenance consists, practically, only in the periodic treatment (at intervals of 5-6 years) of the structure with protective varnishes.
Log houses are cheaper than brick houses. The costs for building a log house are 30 to 40% lower than the costs for building a brick house.

The installation of a log house can be done in any season. Disassembly and later reassembly at another location is relatively easy, with minimal site organization on the part of the beneficiary.
