6 mega residential projects that will change the world's major cities by 2035
10.09.2019

The world is undergoing a superb process of urbanization and modernization, and the migration to the big cities is unstoppable and unprecedented. In fact, the United Nations said that the statistics announce a significant increase of the global population.
To meet this massive demand and to decongest overcrowding, cities in Europe, America or Asia are building spectacular and grand residential projects, numerous schools, parks and medical centers. Infrastructure development is supporting this growth.

Cities like Shanghai, Cairo, New York, Paris, Tokyo or Madrid are undergoing a massive process of change over the next few decades. Here's how and why!
Todtown – Shanghai
According to the developers, the futuristic project in Minhang District – Shanghai is called Todtown and will be completed by 2020.

The entire residential project includes over 1,000 apartments, shopping areas spread over hundreds of thousands of square meters, office space and a cultural center. Todtown will also have plenty of green areas, as seen in the adjacent rendering. Construction began in 2014 and costs exceed 1.5 billion dollars.

New Cairo
To the east of the capital of Egypt there is currently being built a city in the true sense of the word, with an area of hundreds of square kilometers, consisting of over 20 residential complexes. There will be enough houses and apartments here to accommodate over 5 million people.

In addition, New Cairo will have over 1,000 new mosques and places of worship, nearly 2,000 new educational centers, 600 hospitals and medical centers, numerous conference and business facilities and the largest park in the world. We can't wait to see what it will look like, at least in pictures.
The project is worth 45 billion dollars and is largely funded by Chinese developers. Construction began in 2015 and will be completed only in 2022.

New York – The New World Trade Center
After the terrorist attacks of 2001, famous architects and engineers designed, thought of and analyzed new residential projects to fill the place that hosted for many years the famous twin towers of New York City.
In July 2017, a large part of this project was completed: the tallest skyscraper in the city, Freedom Tower, was built together with the 9/11 monument and museum. A shopping center and a park were put into use in the same area. But the Americans aren’t stopping here. By 2020, they will build another 3 towers, a church and a cultural center in the same area.

Europa City – Paris
In 2016, the capital of France began the construction of a „small town” of 8.6 million square meters in the northern part of the French metropolis, called Europa City.
The project was designed by the Danes from the Bjarke Ingels Group, who also built the Google headquarters in California. Europa City is a „wow”-mix of houses, apartments, studios, shopping malls, shops, markets, golf course and even an artificial ski slope.

The project is worth 3.4 billion dollars and despite being located in a suburb, it will connect the area with urban Paris and reduce congestion in central areas. The project will be fully completed in 2024.

Tokyo – over 45 new skyscrapers
The capital of Japan is intensely preparing for the 2020 Olympic Games, which has led to the start of dozens of new residential projects in the city. More than 45 new blocks will scratch clouds in Tokyo until this event.

Many of them will be in the Shibuya area of the Japanese metropolis. The towers will house thousands of housing units, as well as office space, shopping malls and parks. The development project called Shibuya River includes a pedestrian riverfront, where hundreds of shops and restaurants have already opened their gates.
According to the investors, the entire project is worth tens of billions of dollars and will be completed by 2027.

Castellana Norte – Madrid
A high-profile residential project is also being built in the Spanish capital. The project is worth no less than 7 billion dollars, will be called Castellana Norte and will be located in the northern part of the city.
The industrial area where there were only a few houses and some abandoned warehouses will be populated by modern glass buildings, skyscrapers, parks, bridges, etc. The complex will be able to accommodate approximately 17,000 people and will be completed by 2035.
