"Eternity was born in the village ...", Lucian Blaga once said. Whoever grew up or lives in the village knows that all the beauty and goodness there comes, and if all the facilities and needs were ensured, no one would leave. If we talk about modernization, a good model of administration or fruitful local investments for citizens and especially for young people, Ciugud commune in Alba county is the best example.
Ciugud is a founder of the "smart village" concept in our country and a landmark for the other communes in Romania. In recent years, it has implemented numerous projects designed to help citizens as much as possible and thus improve their quality of life. At the end of 2020, the commune was awarded at the Smart City Industry Awards Gala, for all the smart solutions proposed and implemented within the community. Among the smart solutions available in Ciugud are: payment machines for taxes and fees, applications and a platform with digital public services for all citizens, intelligent public lighting, smart video surveillance system used to avoid antisocial acts or use an electric car.
In addition to all the smart services mentioned above, part of the commune's electricity is provided by a micro-wind farm and photovoltaic panels. The issue of protecting the environment is also "smart", and Ciugudul is the commune in the country with the most charging stations for electric vehicles compared to the number of citizens.
One of the big and praiseworthy projects, implemented in the commune, refers to "Ciugud Smart School". The project was inaugurated in 2019 and was the first smart school in rural areas in our country. This includes the use of interactive whiteboards, digital textbooks, an online library and a platform designed to facilitate interaction between teachers and students. At the same time, the lighting in the building is intelligent and adapts according to the light outside, and the ventilation according to the conditions inside.
Because we presented above the attention paid by the local administration to the young people from Ciugud, we mention that the "Children's City Hall" also exists here. At the beginning of the year, the children from the commune chose, following the steps of a normal election, the mayor, the deputy mayor and the local councilors. Thus, they are taught from an early age about the obligations and rights they have and also have a budget to implement projects for young people.
