Does the washing machine smell weird? Here's how to get rid of it

Unpleasant odors can occur in any perimeter of the house, especially in areas prone to moisture. Most often, it occurs due to the mold formed. If the washing machine emits an unpleasant odor and the clothes no longer have the same scent, most likely mold and dirt has settled on the internal components of the machine. Mold often occurs due to excess detergent. Traces of detergent are deposited on the drum, hose or heater, and then it comes into contact with dirt.

Today we present you some tips that will help you eliminate the unpleasant smell from the washing machine and also avoid its reappearance.

1. Leave the door open after washing
This is perhaps the simplest and most important piece of advice you can get. It is recommended that after each washing cycle, the machine ventilates and dries properly. The more you leave it open, the better. The washing program and also the number of rotations you choose, will not positively influence the correct and total removal of dust and dirt.

2. Take off your clothes immediately after finishing the program
This advice must be followed to prevent unpleasant odors. If the clothes remain closed in the car for a long time, due to moisture, the smell is formed automatically.

3. Use home solutions
If the smell is not very strong and has not appeared for a long time, then you can first try to start the car without laundry, on the longest program and at the highest temperature. Thus, all car components will be cleaned.
If you have been facing this problem for a long time, and the smell is more and more annoying, then resort to known solutions (babesti). Add a mixture based on these ingredients (baking soda, vinegar, bleach, citric acid, etc.) to the detergent drawer. Here's how you can combine them:
• Combine 50 ml of water with 50 g of baking soda and add the resulting mixture to the detergent drawer. For the drum, use 300 ml of vinegar. After you have prepared the car, choose a 60-minute program at maximum temperature;
• Another option is to replace baking soda and vinegar with citric acid. Use 200 grams of citric acid for the detergent drawer and 50 g for the drum;
• You can also use 50 ml of bleach for the detergent drawer.

4. Clean the rubber gasket
The washing machine gasket may contain mold, dirt, water or traces of detergent. To get rid of the unpleasant odor, mix bleach or vinegar with warm water, and clean the surface of the gasket with a cloth or sponge.

5. Clean the detergent drawer
This tip is much easier to do because the drawer can be removed. Rinse it well under a stream of hot water and use a toothbrush for the corners that are harder to reach. If warm water is not enough, then use a chlorine-based bleach. At the end, rinse it and let it dry well before putting it back.

6. Clean the filter
Cleaning the filter requires a lot of attention and time. Before you take care of it, make sure you have a towel and a water container on hand. Disconnect the car from the power supply and remove the filter. It is positioned at the bottom of the front of the car, just below the plastic cover. Clean it well with warm water and remove all dirt. For a long-term result, this procedure must be repeated every month.
