However, make sure that you can take care of this aspect and that there is no need to seek specialized help. It is possible that the object (s) in question are much too damaged and need special treatment with certain chemicals.

1. Prepare the necessary tools before you start. It will be much easier for you and you will finish in a shorter time if everything is at your fingertips.
2. Check the object in detail because there is a possibility that no total reconditioning is needed. You can certainly paint it or give it a full shine, but some parts may really need serious repairs or some improvements.
2. The next step is to remove the existing finish either with the help of substances or using a series of tools from those presented above. For starters, use a stripper that will remove the finish. Apply it evenly over the entire surface for an optimal result. Then remove the varnish or paint (as appropriate) with a brush or sandpaper.
If you want to save more time and not wait for the chemical to act on the material, then use a belt sander. If you follow this method, then be careful what granulation paper you use so as not to affect the thickness of the wood.
3. Dirt cleaning follows. The cloth made of a soft material (preferably cotton) will be a real help. You must clean the furniture well, and for this you can use thinner or any suitable chemical solution. It is not advisable to leave dust or pieces of material before moving on to the painting part.
4. Because after cleaning all the scratches and imperfections will be visible, repair them with wood putty.
5. Did you fix all the imperfections? Perfect, then you can move on to the next step. Sand the wood surface once more before painting, to keep it smooth.
6. Now comes the most important part: applying the stain or paint (depending on your preferences and material requirements). Use a natural hair brush, a sponge for small portions or a roller for larger portions.
7. After the paint or stain has dried well, then apply a coat of primer. Finish everything with one or more coats of varnish (depending on your wishes) and don't forget to take breaks between applications, to dry properly.
