Particularities of finishes for wooden houses
07.09.2020

Wooden houses are an increasingly common option among Romanians and this is due to the lower cost and much shorter execution time compared to houses built with bricks or autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). However, people are scared due to lacking knowledge: maybe they can't authorize the construction, maybe it will be difficult to resell, maybe special interior finishes are needed for the structures of the wooden houses.

This material contains some particularities related to the finishing of a wooden house. You will see that there are not so many differences, and things are far from complicated.

1. How to insulate the house
The materials that can be used for thermal insulation of these houses can be of several types: polystyrene, mineral wool, basalt wool, etc. It is preferable that when the house is installed, you also have the insulation materials, and as the work progresses, the thermal insulation is also done. Specialists recommend the use of 5 cm flame retardant expanded polystyrene which has a much higher thermal and acoustic resistance than the usual polystyrene. At the end, it is advisable to apply silicone decorative plaster.

2. What heating system can be used and how is the heating system installed?
As in the case of brick or AAC houses, any heating system can be used. It is more recommended to use the central heating system with both radiators and underfloor heating. Of course, fireplaces or stoves can also be used, but it is recommended to use closed or semi-closed combustion chambers for a higher degree of security.
The thermal installation is drawn over the plate on the ground floor, and then through the back of the drywall, making round routes for radiators. The materials for these routes for the hidden part should be polypropylene and copper for the visible part.

3. How to install the electrical installation
The electrical installation in a wooden house must be approved for such constructions. It is mounted with routes behind the drywall, using protective, fireproof pipes. It is recommended to use copper cables. The boxes for sockets and switches are recommended to be made of metal or fireproof plastic. At the same time, the tubes through which the cables are pulled must be metallic or made of plastic materials approved for wooden houses. Likewise, the accessories, the electrical panel and the lighting fixtures need to be approved as well.

4. What kind of sanitary installations and objects are used?
Sanitary installations and drainage are made only of PVC pipes. Water supply is made with propylene tubing with fiber insert. Sanitary objects can be chosen according to each person's preferences.

5. What finishes can be used both in bathrooms and in the kitchen?
Like in the case of houses built of brick or AAC, any kind of finish can be used. The only difference from the classic houses is related to the installation of the tiles on drywall.

In conclusion, with small exceptions, the finishes for wooden houses are made approximately like the finishes for houses with classic masonry.
