The Lazaret neighborhood – a neighborhood in full development on the real estate market of Sibiu
The story of the Lazaret neighborhood is a quite interesting one. This name was given due to the fact that on the land where the Atlassib bus station is currently located, in the past there was a Dominican monastery, which was later moved inside the fortress of Sibiu.

According to DEX, the word lazaret is explained as follows: isolated shelter in some border towns, intended for people, ships and goods from a region where there is plague and quarantine.

Nowadays, this neighborhood stretches from behind the station to the city ring road.
Experts say that the point of development of the above mentioned neighborhood is Moara de Scoarta Street, a name preserved since the medieval period. At that time, there really was a bark mill that produced paper.

The main characteristics of this neighborhood are:

1. Perimeter
The Lazaret neighborhood has a fairly large area in relation to the number of inhabitants.
The area of this neighborhood is about 40 hectares.

2. Delimitation



This neighborhood is bordered by several streets, of which we mention: Garii Street in the South-West area, Abrud Street in the North-West and Henri Coanda Street in the South-East part.

3. Population 
This neighborhood has developed a lot in recent years. For this reason we do not have clear data on the number of inhabitants in this neighborhood, but what we can say is that this neighborhood together with the Trei Stejari area has a population of approximately 22,500 inhabitants.

4. Areas
The Lazaret neighborhood is divided into several areas as follows:
Compa area – an area with blocks and also an industrial area.
Libra area – a complex of new blocks with different categories of apartments for sale in Sibiu.


The area of houses, an area really protected from the hustle and bustle and the noise of the city.

5. Construction types:
The largest area of this neighborhood consists of stand-alone houses or duplexes.
In recent years, the Lazaret neighborhood has developed a lot and, so, many new residential housing complexes have been built. The blocks built in this area generally have a ground floor plus four stories.
Currently, this area has become one of the most sought after areas due to very easy access to the city.

6. Tourist attractions and institutions of interest
In recent years, this area has developed at a fast pace. While in recent years new housing complexes have been built, at the end of 2019 the opening of a new shopping center was inaugurated: Promenada Mall. At the moment, it is considered the largest shopping center in Sibiu.
Also in this area there are schools and kindergartens, shopping areas, a bowling alley, medical clinics and pharmacies. In addition, the neighborhood is in the immediate vicinity of the city center. Also, the inhabitants who reside in this area have easy access to the Municipal Hospital of Sibiu.

7. Distance to city center
The Lazaret neighborhood is located in the immediate vicinity of the central area of Sibiu. Thus, a walk to the city center takes about 20 minutes, depending on the area from which you start. By public transport or by car, it takes 5-7 minutes depending on the time of day and the area from which you start.

8. Infrastructure and public transport lines
Another great benefit of the area is the infrastructure of the neighborhood, but also the public transport lines. The latter guarantee a good connection to all areas of Sibiu.
Line 8 – Route – Turnisor – Sembraz
Line 10 – Route – Turnisor – Gusterita
Line 12 – Route – Piata Rahova (Rahova Market) – Sembraz
Line 14 – Route – Valea Aurie – Resita
Line 17 – Route – Strand – Resita
Line 18 – Route – Train station – Tiglari

9. Parks and green areas
Because the Lazaret neighborhood is an area consisting mainly of houses, there are many green areas and beautifully designed little parks. In recent years, with the construction of new residential complexes on the real estate market of Sibiu, children’s playgrounds have been built around blocks of flats.
Also for those who want to relax outdoors, at a walking distance of just 5 minutes we find one of the largest parks in Sibiu – Tineretului Park.
