The Strand neighborhood – a sought after area of Sibiu

Strand is one of the top neighborhoods in the city of Sibiu. A neighborhood where the inhabitants enjoy peace, many green areas and it is one of the Sibiu neighborhoods that is constantly growing. The Strand neighborhood is famous for the space and comfort given by the houses in the area and for the short distance to the city center.

The area where the neighborhood lies today was once a field called Livada Macelarilor. In 1935, the construction of the public swimming pool began, hence the name of today's neighborhood, and starting with 1970, the first constructions appeared. The neighborhood is divided into two areas: Strand I and Strand II. During the communist regime, the first blocks of flats with architecture specific to that period were built through the industrialization program.

A period of development of the neighborhood followed, so that between 2000-2012 Strand II was born, an area in which villas and blocks of maximum 4-5 stories predominate.
Today, the neighborhood has a wide range of homes and is one of the neighborhoods sought after on the real estate market in Sibiu and not only in Sibiu.

Next, we present some characteristics of the neighborhood:

1. Perimeter
The Strand neighborhood is located on the border between the neighborhoods of Turnisor, Tilisca, Valea Aurie, Sub Arini Park and the central area.

                           
2. Delimitation
The neighborhood is divided into 2 major areas: Strand I and Strand II.
Strand I is delimited as follows:
- in the North by Onisifor Ghibu Street and Alba Iulia Road
- in the East by Victoriei Boulevard and Rennes Street
- in the West, the neighborhood is delimited by the streets Maramuresului, Cristian and Litovoi Voda
- in the South by Saliste Street
Strand I is delimited as follows:
- in the North by Maramuresului Street
- in the East by the streets Litovoi Voda and Cristian
- in the South by Dimitrie Cantemir Street
- in the West by Profesor Aurel Popa Street

3. Population
Being a neighborhood in full development, the population of the Strand neighborhood will continue to grow more and more in the coming years. Currently, after the last census, the data show that around 12,700 people live in this neighborhood. The increase in the number of people in this area is due to the fact that many new blocks of flats have been built and it is one of the quietest and most sought after neighborhoods on the real estate market in Sibiu.


4. Areas
The Strand neighborhood is divided into two large areas: Strand I and Strand II.
In 1970, the construction of the first villas in the Strand I area began. Since then, the neighborhood has continuously expanded and developed a lot, so that starting with the year 2000, a new area was born: Strand II.
The Strand I area is especially dedicated to the inhabitants who wish to live in a block of flats, closer to the center and the points of interest in the city. On the other hand, Strand II is ideal for those who want a quiet life in a house and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.

5. Construction types
In the Strand neighborhood, there are areas of both houses and blocks of flats, which makes it a much-desired neighborhood for anyone looking for a home. In the Strand I area, the blocks with a maximum of 4-5 stories predominate, which are built in the style of the '70s, and in the Strand II area you will most often find newly built houses and blocks of flats.
There is a wide range of available properties and there are many people who are looking for the ideal home, and this neighborhood is the perfect option.


6. Tourist attractions and institutions of interest
Although it is a neighborhood protected from the hustle and bustle of the central area, there are many points of interest for residents here.

Among the areas of interest are the Aqua Fun Public Swimming Pool, Vointa Stadium, Military Hospital, Onisfor Ghibu Theoretical Lyceum, Gymnasium Nr. 1, the parks Strand and Cristianului, the Visma company, etc.
In the neighborhood there are also many shops, restaurants, pharmacies, bus stations and taxi ranks, medical offices, churches, gas stations, pubs, parks and green areas.

7. Distance to the city center
The distance from the Strand neighborhood to the central area of Sibiu is 2 km.

To get to the city center, it takes only 10 minutes by car, about 25 minutes on foot, and by bus you can get there quite easily in 20 minutes.

8. Infrastructure and public transport lines
Being close to the city center, the neighborhood has many connections to the rest of the city areas. Any spot in the city can be very easily reached. The main bus routes that start from the Strand area are:
Line 16 – Route - Valea Aurie – Tineretului neighborhood
Line 17 – Route - Strand II – Resita neighborhood


9. Parks and green areas
When we choose to buy a home, a very important aspect is the area in which we would like to live.

Apart from all the nearby points of interest and the proximity of the neighborhood to the central area or the workplace, more and more people are looking for areas as close as possible to parks, green spaces and relaxation areas.
The Strand neighborhood is surrounded by parks, many green areas specially designed for relaxation and by children’s playgrounds.
An example is the Strand Park which is the largest in the neighborhood and is located behind the Church of St. Michael and Gabriel.

Another very beautiful and newly built park is the Strand II Park on Dimitrie Cantemir Street. Cristianului Park is another ideal place to relax and is located near Cristian Street.

Apart from the specially designed parks, the neighborhood borders the Sub Arini Park, which is the largest park in the city. With all these areas near the neighborhood, the inhabitants of the Strand neighborhood can choose where to spend their free time in a natural and quiet environment.
