Wunderbar - the place where quality prevails, not quantity

„It's essential to be 100% you, to be authentic and everything to start from the heart”, said Valentin Oancea, the drummer of the band DOMINO and the founder of Wunderbar. Let's find out together more details about a beautiful business that brings joy to the souls of the people of Sibiu.

1. When was Wunderbar born and what is the story behind the business?
Hello, New Concept Living. I welcome the approach of the project - People from Sibiu - and I am glad that I am also part of it. The Wunderbar story began about 4 years ago. I usually organize nice evenings for my friends, with good music and quality wine. And at one point a friend suggested to take things further and to animate a larger number of people in a nice atmosphere. I understood it as a challenge and slowly the present project took shape. I really wanted others to enjoy the quality wine that I enjoyed together with my friends.

2. Where did the idea for the name Wunderbar - („wonderful” in German) come from and why in German?
The name was chosen randomly by a friend. We were in the garden talking about this project, we were making plans and thinking of all sorts of interesting options when two of us fell off a chair, and a friend said, „Come on, Wunderbar, get up.” That's how the name sticked, and today I couldn't think of a better word to define our wine.

3. How does Valentin combine the two passions: music and wine?
It's very simple, I combine the two passions putting the common denominator first: people. They want to enjoy a good wine in a nice and relaxed atmosphere. I have done everything for the people. For example, I remember a nice moment when someone saw me on stage at an event, and half an hour later he saw me pouring drinks.
He was surprised and I jokingly told him that you don’t earn enough from music. In fact, I do not seek to exclude any of them, but to combine them in a nice way so as to reach the souls of people. I am a drummer for the band DOMINO and the founder of Wunderbar. And the two blend perfectly.

4. What do you think is an essential skill for an entrepreneur with such a business?
I think that no matter what business you have, it is essential to be 100% you, to be authentic and everything to start from the heart. I didn't start a business for a source of income, I don't even call it a business. It is a passion of mine, from which I am lucky to earn some income.
I think a lot of entrepreneurs think the opposite way: what business is profitable so that I can do something productive, too? I don't think this is the normal course: first you have to find something that you enjoy very much, that defines you, and then you have to turn it into a business. Then you have every chance in the world for a great start.

5. Can wines be purchased from somewhere, or only from events in the city?
Basically, our wines can be found at events in the city. We also tried Business to Customer, we wanted to reach our customers also differently, but we were confronted with a rigid legislation. In addition, being a small winery, we can not compete with the big names on the market. Thus we limited ourselves to events.

6. What are the festivals in Sibiu that you are present at and where can your clients find you?
This year is atypical, given the isolation conditions imposed by the authorities, so many events have been postponed or canceled. But I can tell you what the events are which we attended last year. I will start with Focus, which I developed a lot and where I provided the atmosphere and the drink. However, I participated in almost all quality festivals in Sibiu: Foodie, Vino, Arini Fest, Street Food, Medieval Festival.

7. What makes Wunderbar stand out from other wines?
Without false modesty, I say it stands out through quality. We have a natural wine, without sugar and additives or preservatives. We do not rely on super production, but on super quality. The attention to every detail and the 100% involvement on my part and on the part of the team makes Wunderbar stand out from other wines. In addition, when it comes to suppliers, I’m careful who I work with.

8. How do you promote yourself?
The promotion of Wunderbar is rudimentary, I can practically say that it doesn’t exist at all. Over time we have been recommended only by our own services, by impeccable service and good products at a fair price. People enjoyed our presence and invited us back or recommended us to other people. And so on.

9. What future plans do you have for Wunderbar?
Well, we can't wait for this pandemic period to pass and for the events to resume in Sibiu. Until then, we're working on other cool things that we can't wait to tell you more about. For example, I really want to make a 100 m pancake for all the children from Sibiu who will participate in an event. But I will return with details about this soon, also through an article with you.

10. Thank you very much. We wish you much success with everything.
Thank you, too. I wish you the same. Good luck interviewing as many nice people from Sibiu as possible. There is always a need for promotion and movement, but also for networking and good collaboration between entrepreneurs from Sibiu.
